A study visit was orginazed to Washington DC by Center for Alternative Policies to hold a consultation with American non-governmental organizations for discussing the global; regional political developments and suggesting solutions. Within the framework of visit, Brookings; Washington; Hudson Institute; JINSA; CSIS; AEI; Carnegie Corporation and such leading non-governmental organizations’ represantives in USA were communicated. Georgetown University was also visited and various informations were obtained about Turkey and its region. Furtherm ore, together with the Assembly of Turkish American Associations established by Turks dwelling in The United States and the Turkish Coalition of America, their studies which increase the efficiency of Turks in United States were discussed and mutual cooperation possibilities were searched. As well as those institutes, a courtesy visit to SETA DC which is newly established was actualized. During the visit, which coincides with the adoption of allegations related with the Armenian Genocide bill by The Foreign Relations Committee of The House of Representatives, protocols which is signed with Armenia in 2009 and therein’s effects on the future of protocols were discussed. In this context, the belief emerged that Armenian Diaspora in the United States was against singing of the protocols from the begining and their opposition came out with the intense pressure on the Government of Armenia after the signing of the contract.
The meeting coincided with the pre-international summit concerning with the planned implementation of sanctions about Iran’s nucleer programme. Therefore; since the meeting coincided with the pre-international summit participated by Prime Minister Erdoğan as well, Turkey- Iran and Turkey– Israel relations was another main subject of the meeting. It was arised that Turkey’s Iran policy is generally criticised in The United States, but on the contrary, Turkey’s Israel policy is not. It was also assessed that Obama’s oppose to “new settlement” engenders problems between The United States and Israel. The reactions was voiced toward both Turkey and USA administration by who closes to Israel.
While the travel, close at tention and general support of American think-tanks to the “Constitutional Reform” was observed.
